If you thought that human hair could only be sent to landfill - think again! In the next few months, hairdressing businesses across Gloucestershire will be able to dispose of it, and probably save money whilst doing it.
y-waste, the innovative social enterprise that offers a total commercial waste and recycling service, is set to collect hair from businesses to support the artistic ideas of Ronald Thompson. Ronn, who is based at South Bank University in London, has designed a chair made of human hair - the only type in the world! And he has chosen to launch the partnership with y-waste, a Stroud based business, at the Stroudwater International Textile Festival.

This photo shows the Stiletto Chair, a beauty of the creation made entirely from human hair. Ronn, who used to be a hairdresser said: "This is a great way to re-use hair, instead of sending to landfill. By working in association with y-waste, I am able to make a chair that is totally bio degradable - yet as strong as polycarbonate." A founder of y-waste, Carole Garfield agreed, saying: "What a fantastic way for hairdressers in Gloucestershire (Stroud) to do their bit for the environment".
Lizzi Walton, Director of the Textile Festival said: "I am delighted that the Stiletto Chair will be on display during the textile dance performance on Saturday 19th May at Woodchester Mansion. It is a fine example of the innovative use of a byproduct, previously destined for the dustbin".
