Founders of y-waste, the social enterprise set up to encourage businesses to work together, were overwhelmed with the success of the morning, which took place at Stroud Subscription Rooms. It was attended by businesses from all around the district, with the first two to become members of the scheme - R&R Books from Stroud Town Centre and Wotton Electric Picture House Ltd from Wotten under Edge - pleased that they will now be able to recycle as much of their commercial waste as possible.
From now on, businesses will be able to have all their waste collected, at a time to suit them, plus they won't need to separate out all the different types of recyclable waste. It can all go in the same bag, saving time and space!
Carole Garfield, Co founder of y-waste said, "Businesses have responded positively to this new scheme, which was set up after the FSB and the Chamber of Commerce in Stroud were contacted by members wanting to recycle more. We now look forward to working with many more businesses as more and more people see the benefit of using a single contract for all their waste management needs."
The initiative has been supported by Stroud District Council, which understands that all businesses have Duty of Care Regulations to follow, stating that commercial waste must be disposed of sensibly. Carlos Novoth, the Councils Public Spaces Service Manager said, " The Council is encouraged to see so many businesses taking their Duty of Care requirements seriously and we are pleased that this y-waste scheme is able to offer businesses the opportunity to recycle as much as possible in the easiest way."
